Overview of 5% Nutrition Real Carbs+Protein
5 Percent Nutrition is still alive and well, even after Rich Piana passed away in 2017. The brand is still making quality products for more “hardcore” users but is starting to target a broader audience on the brand.
5% Food Nutrition Carbs + Protein is a solid meal replacement recipe using foods like oats, sweet potatoes, beef, chicken, eggs, and green beans to give consumers the best real benefits from food.
In terms of meal replacement, this is one of the best foods on the market that doesn’t rely on cheap carbs and mediocre protein to provide consumers with a nutritious solution to their diet. If you value what you eat, this product is a solid choice.
Rich Piana 5% Nutrition Real Carbs Review
In this Rich Piana 5% Nutrition Real Carbs review, let’s dive into the ingredient, effectiveness, taste, mixability, and price and see if it’s worth a try.
Ingredients Profile
Macros:
- Calories: 250
- Fats: 7g
- Carbs: 30g
- Protein: 20g
The carbs vary according to the taste, but the one we tried was 30g.
Let’s dive into the carb sources. Instead of using inexpensive maltodextrin or dextrose, 5% of Nutrition uses whole oats, rice powder, and sweet potato powder. These are the three REALLY foods that are quality digestible carbs and GI carbs. These are complex carbs that do not spike insulin levels.
5% Nutrition uses several protein sources to make up 20g of protein. We start with HydroBEEF Beef Protein Isolate. It doesn’t have the same biological value as whey protein, but it is a non-dairy alternative that a lot of people are looking for today.
We also get protein from whole egg powder, with a bioavailability score of 100. Also, we get chickpea powder and chicken powder. We don’t know the breakdown of each, but we do know that since beef is at the top of the list, it’s used in the highest amount.
Effectiveness
We wish there were some types of whey used in this product to increase bioavailability, but we understand that 5% Nutrition is on a non-dairy pathway with Real Carbs + Protein. Beef proteins, especially HydroBEEF, are increasingly being used to replace milk.
We can get on board with this. What we like is that this is a solid recipe that will “fill” you up. It works great as a meal replacement or as a supplement to add extra calories in a bulking state.
You don’t have “gut rot” or any discomfort due to the powder. You don’t have the feeling of falling apart when the insulin spikes you can get from cheaper meal replacement products.
Taste
Blueberry Cobbler is a really delicious taste. You will get a strong taste of very interesting blueberries. It’s almost like a blueberry muffin. You do feel a bit uncomfortable with it, but nothing uncomfortable or disgusting. When we started this, it was really tasty and enjoyable. If you’re a Blueberry fan, you’ll love this a lot.
Mixability
It should be noted that this is not a whey protein isolate. This type will not mix with whey protein in general. With the combination of protein and carb sources, this will come out thicker with a slightly grainy texture. This is OK.
If you’ve ever eaten vegan protein, you get the same. It still has a great mouth feeling. You won’t get lumpy, it will thicken with a slightly grainy texture. Overall, not too bad.
Price
5% Nutrition Real Carbs + Protein retails for $44 for 22 servings. This is $2 per serving. If you double your portion sizes, you’ll get 500 calories for under $5. Given the sources of carbs and proteins, blended with flavor and miscibility, this is worth it. With code HR4U10, you’ll get a 15% discount, this for only $37, which is under $2 per serving. This is something we could get behind.
