The Umbrella Academy 3 has just launched on Netflix but already received 92% fresh tomatoes. Therefore, fans are extremely excited to binge-watch season 3 in one sitting. If you’re too vague about what happened to the characters in season 2, here’s the recap for you.
What have the characters been through?
Here’s what happened to each main character in season 2 that you need to know before you watch The Umbrella Academy 3.
Luther (Number 1)
Number 1, Luther (Tom Hopper) came to Dallas in 1962. He made a living fighting in an underground boxing ring for Jack Ruby. He is a real-life gangster destined to kill Lee Harvey Oswald, the man who assassinated John F. Kennedy.
Then, Luther ran into Viktor and learned that his family still lived in Dallas. So, he teamed up with the remaining Hargreeves to prevent an impending second apocalypse.
Diego (Number 2)
Diego (David Castañeda) arrived in Dallas in September 1963. He is obsessed with being the person who prevented the assassination of President Kennedy. Thus, he was put in a mental hospital and met Lila Pitts (Ritu Arya). When they escaped from the hospital together, the two met Five.
Lila loves Diego. However, she is the adopted child of The Handler (Kate Walsh) so she helped her fight the Hargreeves. In the end, Diego learned that Viktor would be the cause of the apocalypse in 1963. He tried to escape the commission and, along with his siblings, stopped the apocalypse.
Allison (Number 3)
Number 3 came to Dallas in 1961 during the height of the American Civil Rights Movement. She became a key member of the movement. In addition, she was married to Raymond Chestnut (Yusuf Gatewood), a famous leader full of enthusiasm.
After using her hypnosis to save Ray, Allison was misunderstood by her husband. He only learned the truth after Luther and Klaus appeared. In the end, he chose to stay in 1963 while his wife helped the Hargreeves prevent the apocalypse.
Klaus (Number 4)
Klaus (Robert Sheehan) was in Dallas on February 11, 1960. He became the leader of a spiritual hippie cult. Furthermore, Klaus tried to convince Dave (Calem MacDonald) not to join the army so he won’t die in Vietnam.
Dave’s homophobic uncle bullied Dave and caused Number 4 to relapse. Next, Klaus helped Diego and Allison in their attempt to stop Viktor from blowing up the FBI building. However, Ben (Justin H. Min) could not return with Viktor. In other words, this was the first time in 17 years that Klaus was alone.
Five (Number 5)
Five was the last to arrive in Dallas on November 25, 1963. It was the end of the world. However, Hazel (Cameron Britton) appeared and explained everything to Five. The Umbrella Academy caused the apocalypse by altering the timeline.
Therefore, Five’s mission was finding his siblings. He must gather them together to save the world once again.
Ben (Number 6)
He arrived in Dallas on the same day as Klaus. He fell in love with Jill, one of Klaus’ devout followers. So he convinced Klaus to temporarily let him take control of Klaus’ body in order to talk to Jill.
When Viktor went mad, Ben was the only one who was able to overcome the shockwave. As a result, Ben found where Viktor was hiding in his mind. He helped him deal with childhood trauma. No more doomsday. However, Ben has gradually disappeared in Viktor’s arms.
Viktor (Number 7)
Viktor arrived in Dallas in October 1963. After being hit by a car, he temporarily lost his memory. Viktor became a nanny for Harlan (Justin Paul Kelly), who has undiagnosed autism. Besides, he fell in love with Sissy, Harlan’s mother. He saved Harlan from drowning by using his powers. However, this action caused Harlan to suddenly have the same ability as him.
In the end, Viktor saved Harlan but had to break up with Sissy in pain. He decided to return to his Hargreeves siblings.
Beginning of The Umbrella Academy 3
In the final episode of The Umbrella Academy 2, the group made the jump back to 2019. They returned to the Umbrella Academy mansion on April 2, 2019, one day after the apocalypse.
For a moment, it seemed like everything was finally back to normal. However, their deceased father, Reginald Hargreeves suddenly appeared with 6 members of The Sparrow Academy.
