An independent cold case group claims to know the Zodiac Killer real name, who was behind a series of murders in San Francisco (USA) more than half a century ago.
Who is Zodiac Killer?
Zodiac Killer is a famous serial killer behind at least 5 murders in the San Francisco area in California (USA) from 1968-1969. This guy claimed to have killed 37 people, but authorities only confirmed 5 cases and 2 others escaped.

To this day, Zodiac Killer real name has not been found. Until the 1970s, he still wrote letters to the police and local media to brag about his actions and challenge. Many of the letters contained encrypted messages and included a piece of blood-stained clothing as if to prove he was the killer. Of the four ciphertexts, two were decrypted in 1969 and 2020.
Cold-Case Group Claims To Know Zodiac Killer Real Name Is
The Case Breakers team of more than 40 former police officers, private detectives, federal agents, and forensic experts recently announced that they had determined the true identity of the Zodiac Killer. Zodiac Killer real name is Gary Francis Poste (died 2018), according to The Independent.
According to TMZ, Poste was a painter, suffered from many illnesses, and died in 2018 at the age of 80 from sepsis, septic shock, and dysphagia. He was married and had been in the army.
Specific Evidence Is Given
After years of gathering evidence, the team at The Crime Stoppers claim to have found many clues about the Zodiac Killer. These include DNA samples, images from Poste’s photo-processing room, scars or wrinkles on his forehead, like a police sketch of the Zodiac Killer.
The team said that removing the letters of Poste’s name from one of the Zodiac Killer’s encrypted messages could create a new message.

Also according to the investigative team, Poste was behind the murder of Cheri Jo Bates in Riverside, California on October 31, 1966. This case happened 2 years before the first confirmed case involving the Zodiac Killer.
Bates’ father reported to authorities that his son was missing. And Bates’ body was later found on a sidewalk near a library in the city with 42 stab wounds to his body.
Evidence linking Poste to Bates’ death includes a record of having lived in the area, a painted watch at the scene, and boot prints matching the sizes of Poste and Zodiac Killer’s shoes.
The Case Breakers group has called on local police to compare Poste’s DNA with DNA samples obtained at the scene of the 1966 murder. However, a homicide unit has not yet been solved by the Police Department. Riverside announced that the 1966 Cheri Jo Bates case was not related to the Zodiac Killer and called for inquiries regarding the Zodiac Killer to be directed to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
