BTS is going on a break as band members announce ‘hiatus’ to pursue solo projects

K-pop superstar group BTS is on hiatus. The hit South Korean boy band announced their decision during a “Festa Dinner” dinner, celebrating the band’s 9th anniversary. The group consists of members RM, Jin, V, J-Hope, Suga, Jimin and Jungkook.

RM, the group’s leader said: “I always thought that BTS was different from other groups, but the problem with K-pop and the whole idol system is that they don’t give you time to mature”.

He went on to say that after years of work, the team had lost its way.

A representative of Hybe, the entertainment company that represents the band, released a statement: “To be clear, they are not on hiatus but will take time to explore some solo projects at this time and remain active in various different formats.”

BTS officially debuted in 2013. The members of the group are now almost 30 years old and together they have spent several years reaching global success and becoming one of the most popular groups in the world.

They recently used their influence to send a message against anti-Asian hate at the White House last month.

But after all this time, their jobs seem more robotic, according to Jin.

“I have my own hobbies, too, and things I want to do on my own,” he said.

RM says they need to do their own thing.  “I want BTS to go on for a long time,” he said.

They have said that they plan to return after this break.

Record-breaking band

BTS company has enjoyed a surge in profits during the pandemic, despite holding fewer concerts. Septet was the first all-Korean song to dominate Billboard’s top singles chart in the US, a major milestone they achieved with Dynamite, the first BTS song to be sung entirely in English.

They are also one of the few artists since The Beatles released four number-one albums in the US in less than two years. The group’s fans called themselves “BTS Army,” promoting their music and defending them on social media in 2019 when the group was dropped from the Grammy nominations. They have been nominated for two Grammy Awards for best pop/due performance.
